The Ghetto Kids dance group from Uganda was warmly welcomed at Entebbe International Airport following their appearance at the FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
Family, friends, supporters, and media gathered to celebrate the troupe’s achievement on one of the world’s largest sporting stages. The airport echoed with traditional music as the dancers moved through the arrivals area, drawing cheers and applause.
Wearing yellow T-shirts emblazoned with "Ghetto Kids" and the slogan "Making Lives Better," many dancers paired their shirts with kitenge fabric shorts, while others opted for casual attire. Some carried backpacks or wheeled suitcases after their long journey.
One of the young performers described the World Cup experience as a dream come true, expressing excitement and happiness rather than nerves.
The troupe’s performance alongside Colombian superstar Shakira during the final match between Argentina and Spain exposed them to millions of viewers worldwide. Shakira had previously shared on social media how the children had inspired her during rehearsals in New York.
From Kampala Streets to Global Stage
Founded by Kavuma Dauda under the Inspire Ghetto Kids Foundation, the group began as a community initiative to empower vulnerable children through dance and education. Starting with street performances in Kampala, the troupe has grown into one of Africa’s most recognized dance ensembles.
They first gained international attention through Eddy Kenzo’s hit "Sitya Loss" music video and have since performed on global talent shows and with renowned musicians.
The World Cup halftime slot marks a significant milestone, showcasing Uganda’s creative talent on an international platform alongside some of the biggest names in entertainment.
