Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition is set to hold a pivotal meeting on Monday to outline its political roadmap for the 2027 General Election, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced.
The meeting will be chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who leads the coalition's Council. Kalonzo, who heads the party's executive, said the leadership has already begun crafting a broad strategy but will share detailed plans after the gathering.
Speaking at the SKM Command Centre after meeting members of the Linda Mwananchi movement, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kalonzo encouraged the group to continue their activism ahead of the polls.
Focus on Unity and 2002 Political Momentum
Kalonzo likened the current political climate to the 2002 moment when the National Rainbow Coalition united to defeat the long-standing KANU government. He emphasized the importance of political unity to meet Kenyans' expectations and warned against actions that could undermine the coalition's efforts.
“We see a 2002 moment today,” Kalonzo said, recalling how voters punished politicians who tried to frustrate the popular will at that time.
Engagement with Opposition and Internal Consolidation
The Wiper leader indicated that Azimio remains open to collaboration with other opposition groups while strengthening its internal structures. He highlighted the involvement of key figures like ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna in ongoing consultations.
The upcoming meeting is expected to clarify Azimio's strategy and alliances as opposition parties intensify efforts to present a united front against President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Kalonzo also assured that discussions will continue beyond Monday, with the coalition committed to updating Kenyans on their progress.
