On Thursday, Utumishi Girls Academy held a heartfelt prayer service for its Form Four candidates preparing for the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. The event came two months after a tragic fire claimed the lives of 16 students, including seven Form Four candidates who had hoped to sit this year's national exams.
The ceremony was led by the school's patron, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who offered words of encouragement amid the school's ongoing recovery. Students performed tribute songs, reflecting both grief and resilience as they honoured their fallen classmates.
School captain Abigail Wanjiku expressed how the memories of the lost students continue to inspire those preparing for the exams. Principal Rufina Nkonge and teacher Joseph Ogacha also urged candidates to stay focused despite the emotional toll.
Gilgil MP Martha Wangari and other leaders joined the community in remembering the 16 victims, emphasizing the importance of hope and rebuilding.
Although seven Form Four students will not be sitting the KCSE, their surviving classmates are drawing strength from their shared journey, determined to complete the academic path they once embarked on together.
