A video has surfaced showing Abigael Chepkemoi, a prison officer based in Sotik, celebrating her birthday with her boyfriend just hours before she allegedly died from suspected poisoning.
In the footage, Chepkemoi is seen enjoying a house party, dancing and snacking on crisps. Her boyfriend, reportedly a teacher, offers her a drink, which she declines before continuing to celebrate unaware of the tragic events to follow.
The incident has deeply affected those close to her. A colleague who shared the video noted that Chepkemoi was pressured to drink alcohol but refused, emphasizing that no circumstance justifies the loss of life.
Following her death, the boyfriend allegedly sent a chilling message in a WhatsApp group, stating, "Poleni tu saaana done and dusted," and shared photos before they were removed by the group admin.
Police are investigating the case, considering a possible romantic dispute as a motive, though no official cause has yet been confirmed.
Chepkemoi was laid to rest on July 31 in a ceremony attended by her uniformed colleagues, marking a solemn farewell to the young officer.
