Vijoo Rattansi, who passed away on July 30, 2026, was a pioneering figure in Kenyan education and philanthropy. She made history as the first woman to serve as Chancellor of the University of Nairobi (UoN), holding the position from December 2013 until 2023.
During her tenure, Rattansi steered the university through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring academic programmes continued uninterrupted. Her leadership was marked by a strong commitment to upholding integrity, humility, and service among graduates.
