More than 100 mechanics from the North Rift region gathered in Eldoret for Vivo Energy Kenya's second annual Mechanics Wellness Day, an event aimed at recognizing the vital role these professionals play in Kenya's transport, agriculture, and industrial sectors.
Held under the theme Celebrating the People Behind Kenya's Mobility Ecosystem, the event combined health screenings, sports, and community activities to honor mechanics whose work often goes unnoticed despite being crucial to the country's economy.
Supporting Kenya’s Mobility
Mechanics ensure the smooth operation of vehicles ranging from farm tractors to long-haul trucks and public transport buses. Stephen Gikonyo, Lubricants and LPG Sales and Marketing Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya, emphasized the company's commitment to these professionals during the awards ceremony.

Ezra Omwancha from Equity Afya highlighted the occupational health risks mechanics face, such as long hours, heavy lifting, and confined working spaces. The free health screenings provided were designed to help mechanics monitor and manage these risks, ensuring their continued contribution to Kenya's transport and agricultural sectors.
Community and Camaraderie
In addition to medical check-ups, attendees participated in football, darts, pool, and other indoor games. Families and industry partners joined the celebrations, culminating in an awards ceremony recognizing winners of the sporting events and fostering a strong sense of community within the profession.
