At a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) rally held on August 1, 2026, in Narumoru Town, former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru openly condemned Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for statements she linked to him regarding former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Waruguru accused Murkomen of betraying the Mount Kenya community, emphasizing their familial ties and warning him against any attempts to arrest Gachagua, the DCP party leader.

Direct Confrontation with Murkomen

Addressing the crowd, Waruguru said, “Murkomen, Murkomen, you are our in-law. You have betrayed the Mount Kenya community by taking one of our finest daughters. And dare you address this Mount Kenya community telling us that you want to arrest our party leader.” Her remarks were met with enthusiastic cheers and chants from supporters.

She further criticized Murkomen for attempting to dictate the region’s voting decisions and issued a stern warning against any political targeting of Gachagua.

Warning Against Political Intimidation

Waruguru declared that the residents of Mt Kenya would not tolerate interference in their political choices. She asserted, “Before you start telling us and lecturing us how you’re going to steal our vote, we want to tell you we will impeach you in your bedroom before you impeach Rigathi from the mountain.” She urged Murkomen to desist from actions against Gachagua as supporters echoed her sentiments.

DCP’s Mobilization Ahead of 2027 Elections

The rally formed part of DCP’s ongoing efforts to consolidate grassroots support in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election. Waruguru highlighted the significance of the region’s vote, stating, “Ruto did not win by deep state. Ruto won by the people of Murima Kenya. And the same people of Murima Kenya, we are ready to take William Ruto home come 2027.”

Her comments underscored the broader political contest unfolding in Mt Kenya as parties position themselves for the upcoming polls.

As of the time of the rally, Murkomen had not issued a public response to Waruguru’s accusations.
