Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has publicly declared his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s quest for the presidency. Speaking at a rally in Bungoma on August 2, 2026, Wanyonyi highlighted his longstanding association with Sifuna within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and recounted his role in introducing Sifuna to Nairobi’s political arena.
"Sifuna served as the Secretary General of ODM. When he came to Nairobi politics, I was the one who welcomed him," Wanyonyi said, reflecting on their partnership. He also acknowledged Sifuna’s initial political setbacks, noting that despite losing his first election attempt, Sifuna eventually secured the Nairobi Senate seat with party support.
Strong Backing from Western Kenya
Wanyonyi’s endorsement follows recent public declarations from Bungoma leaders and residents backing Sifuna’s national ambitions. The MP urged the community to maintain their confidence in the senator, describing Bungoma as the foundation of Sifuna’s political journey.
"You have shown faith in him recently; continue with that commitment. A journey of a thousand kilometers begins with a single step," Wanyonyi remarked. He pledged to accompany Sifuna throughout his campaign, emphasizing shared resolve.
Call for Prayers and National Support
In addition, Wanyonyi appealed to Christians and citizens of Bungoma to pray for Sifuna and support his nationwide efforts to garner votes. He expressed optimism about Sifuna’s growing acceptance beyond Western Kenya, citing encouraging signs from other regions.
- Wanyonyi urged the community to "keep him in your prayers and support his campaign as he seeks votes across the country."
- He noted that "indications show he is gaining approval in many other areas, which is a positive sign for his campaign."
