Serena and Venus Williams have been granted a wild card entry to compete together in the doubles event at the upcoming Cincinnati Masters, scheduled from August 8 to 23. This marks their first doubles partnership since the 2022 US Open.
The Williams sisters, who boast an impressive record of 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals, will use this tournament as preparation ahead of the US Open.
Venus Williams is also expected to participate in the singles draw. Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, recently returned to singles competition at Wimbledon but exited in the first round. A knee injury forced Serena to withdraw from doubles at Wimbledon, preventing a joint appearance with Venus there.
Serena last competed in Cincinnati in 2022, where she was defeated by Emma Raducanu. She previously won the Cincinnati singles title twice, in 2014 and 2015.
Other notable wild cards for the women's singles main draw include 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, alongside American players Taylor Townsend, Caroline Dolehide, and Elvina Kalieva. Additional singles wild cards have been awarded to Czech player Darja Vidmanova and France's Lois Boisson.
