Wiper Patriotic Front leaders have stepped up efforts to bring former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa into the opposition fold, aiming to leverage her political experience and insights on the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua and Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako met Jumwa during a church service at Ebenezer Church in Kisumu Ndogo, Malindi Town, before holding further discussions at her residence.

Wambua Highlights Jumwa’s Strategic Value

Addressing congregants, Senator Wambua emphasized Jumwa’s deep understanding of the current government’s inner workings, describing her as a key asset for the opposition’s election preparations.

“If you believe she deserves leadership, support her and vote for relatable leaders. I commend Aisha for her bold step. This could trigger more defections,” Wambua said, indicating hopes that Jumwa’s departure from UDA might inspire others to follow, particularly in the Coast region.

Mwashako Calls on Coast Residents to Back Jumwa

Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako praised Jumwa’s decision to leave the ruling party, noting that many in the Coast had awaited a prominent leader to make such a move.

“Honourable Aisha, your decision is crucial. Our people at the Coast were waiting for a leader like you to take this step and consult with the Kilifi community and our people,” Mwashako stated.

Jumwa Weighs Her Options

While welcoming the discussions, Jumwa refrained from confirming which political alliance she will join, saying she is still consulting with her Kilifi constituents before making a final declaration.

“We have had fruitful talks and I am hopeful. I will soon stand before the people of Kilifi to share my decision. For now, I am still engaging with political parties and my community,” she explained.

A Key Political Figure in the Coast

Aisha Jumwa remains one of the most influential politicians in the Coast region. Her political journey includes roles from councillor in Takaungu Ward to Kilifi Woman Representative, then Malindi MP, and later a Cabinet Secretary in President Ruto’s government.

She has shifted political alliances over the years, moving from ODM to supporting William Ruto in 2022, becoming a prominent Kenya Kwanza figure in the Coast. Her recent exit from UDA has drawn significant attention from both government and opposition camps.

Opposition Seeks to Strengthen Coast Presence

The outreach to Jumwa aligns with opposition parties’ broader strategy to consolidate support in the Coast ahead of the next general elections. Wiper, part of the United Opposition coalition led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, is actively working to build a strong challenge against President Ruto.

Additionally, the Linda Mwananchi movement is expanding nationally, attracting key defectors. Jumwa’s eventual political alignment is expected to shape the electoral dynamics in Kilifi County and the wider Coast region as the 2027 polls approach.
