Police in Laikipia East Sub-County have arrested a 28-year-old woman following the discovery of her 66-year-old partner’s body buried beneath the floor of their shared home in Nyakumu Village, Muramati Location.
Authorities were alerted to the suspicious burial after noticing a raised section of the floor under the couple’s bed, prompting further investigation. With a court order secured, detectives, alongside pathologists from Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, public health officials, and Crime Scene Investigation personnel, exhumed the body on Monday.
Preliminary inquiries suggest the man was killed on Friday, based on statements reportedly given by the suspect during questioning. The woman, who lived alone with the deceased, allegedly led police to the burial site and helped recover several items believed to have been used in the killing and concealment of the body.
- A panga found buried in a manure heap outside the house
- An iron bar retrieved from a nearby thicket
- Two spades and a fork jembe from the house, thought to have been used to dig the grave
The body was taken to the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The suspect is currently held at Nanyuki Police Station and is expected to be charged as investigations continue. Police have not yet determined whether she acted alone or the motive behind the alleged killing.
Authorities note a rise in murder cases nationwide, often linked to domestic disputes, love triangles, financial conflicts, and land disagreements. Some suspects have been arrested while other investigations remain ongoing.
