A fatal confrontation erupted on Friday morning in Kayole, Nairobi, during a community effort to build a security wall, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Edwin Musanga.
Musanga was working alongside the East-Side Youth Group on a wall project in Bamao, Kirima area, intended to protect a local goat-rearing initiative. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. after a labourer from Chokaa accidentally slipped and fell onto the freshly built section of the wall, causing it to collapse.
The accident sparked anger among some East-Side Youth members who attempted to attack the labourer. He fled towards Hurlingham, prompting a pursuit that involved another group of youths from Chokaa. This chase escalated into a violent clash between the two groups.
During the altercation, Musanga sustained severe injuries. He was initially taken to Emmanuel Hospital in Chokaa and later transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he died.
Police officers on patrol intervened to control the situation. Crime scene investigators examined the locations involved, and Musanga’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the events leading to the fatality and to identify suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
