Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati reported an attack by unidentified goons at Asumbi Junction on Sunday, August 16, 2026, as he travelled to Homa Bay for the Linda Mwananchi rally.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Wangamati condemned what he described as escalating political intolerance in the region. Despite the attack, he confirmed that he and his team proceeded to their destination and arrived in Homa Bay as planned.
"Attacked by goons at Asumbi Junction on our way to Homa Bay. This type of political intolerance will end one day. Nevertheless, we have arrived in Homa Bay. God is ahead," Wangamati wrote.
Linda Mwananchi Rally and Political Climate
The rally is linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement, associated with ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and other political figures. It was a significant mobilisation event in Homa Bay county on the same day as the incident.
