The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting it intends to prohibit live streaming of election results during the 2027 General Election.
On July 30, IEBC Chairperson Edung Ethekon addressed the allegations at a national consultative forum discussing the proposed Election Campaign Financing Regulations, 2026. He described the claims as completely unfounded and stressed the commission's dedication to openness.
IEBC's Stance on Transparency
Ethekon revealed that the commission only became aware of the misleading reports the previous morning and acted swiftly to counter them. He assured Kenyans that the IEBC has no plans to restrict media coverage or live broadcasts of election processes.
"This commission stands for transparency and accountability. We will be the last to propose any measures that limit media freedom, including live streaming of election activities," Ethekon stated.
Demand for Source of Misinformation
Beyond denying the claims, Ethekon challenged the originators of the false story to disclose where they obtained the information. He confirmed no internal decisions or proposals have been made to Parliament regarding such a ban.
