The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial closure of the Mombasa-bound lanes on Waiyaki Way, affecting the stretch between the GTC junction and Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi.
The closure will begin on Friday, 31st July 2026 and is expected to last until Monday, 31st August 2026. This measure is necessary to facilitate essential highway maintenance works along this busy corridor.
Impact and Alternative Arrangements
- Only the Mombasa-bound lanes between GTC and Kempinski will be closed; other sections of Waiyaki Way will remain open.
- Motorists heading towards Mombasa are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.
- Traffic police and marshals will be deployed along the affected section to manage vehicle flow and ensure safety.
- Residents and commuters from nearby estates including Kangemi, Mountain View, Kitisuru, Loresho, Kyuna, Spring Valley, Highridge, Muthangari, Lower Kabete, and parts of Riverside should expect some disruptions.
KeNHA's Advisory
The authority urges all road users to adhere strictly to the traffic management plans during this period and cooperate fully with traffic officers on duty. Normal traffic conditions are anticipated to resume immediately after the maintenance work concludes on 31st August 2026.
