Kenya Pipeline has capped a dominant season by winning the Kenya Cup final against rivals KCB, securing a domestic double after earlier claiming the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League title.
The thrilling five-set victory (3-2: 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11) took place at Kasarani Indoor Arena on Sunday, with Pipeline demonstrating resilience and skill to overcome a strong KCB side.
Coach Omondi Sets Continental Ambition
Head coach Geoffrey Omondi attributed the success to the team's continuous improvement throughout the season, particularly following last year's Kenya Cup final loss to KCB. He emphasized that celebrations will be brief as the team now focuses on the Africa Club Championship.
"I'm gunning for the Africa Club Championship. I'm yet to win that trophy and that is my next goal," Omondi stated.
Player Commitment and Key Performances
Middle blocker Marion Sokoyo described the Kenya Cup win as the result of sustained hard work and preparation. She highlighted the team's focus on maintaining their winning form moving forward.
"It wasn't revenge. We had already beaten them in the league. We just wanted this Kenya Cup. Now we have to keep working because retaining the trophy is not easy," Sokoyo remarked.
The final also showcased the impact of experienced attacker Veronica Adhiambo Oluoch. Having played professionally in Turkey, Greece, and Israel, Oluoch returned to Kenya Pipeline and delivered crucial attacks that helped secure the victory.
"I am very happy because KPC called me to come and help them and now I'm happy I've achieved my goals here. I just want to say thank you so much to KPC for giving me this opportunity," Oluoch said.
