Police in Ruiru have detained a 35-year-old man suspected of involvement in a string of violent attacks where victims were bitten and robbed. The suspect, identified as Githaiga from Mugutha, was apprehended on Saturday afternoon near Powerstar area after an angry mob confronted him.
Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Charles Kibathi confirmed the arrest, stating that the man was intoxicated and had bitten a woman accompanying him, causing injury to her lower lip. Both the suspect and the woman were taken to hospital for treatment while investigations continue.
Authorities are examining whether the suspect is linked to earlier reported attacks in Ruiru and nearby Gitothua Ward, where residents have been living in fear due to repeated incidents involving robbery and biting.
Some community members defended the suspect, suggesting the biting incident with the woman resulted from a disagreement after spending the night together. Nevertheless, police have pledged to intensify security measures and pursue all leads to identify any additional perpetrators.
Details of the Attacks
- The first official report came on July 11, when Daniel Ndegwa was attacked while walking to a shopping centre. The assailant demanded his phone and bit his finger during the struggle.
