Munguti and Chebet Headline Elite Lineup at 2026 Belgut Half Marathon
Over 5,000 runners will compete in the Belgut Half Marathon on August 23, featuring top athletes and supporting education for vulnerable children.
More than 5,000 runners are set to participate in the 2026 Belgut Half Marathon on Sunday, August 23, in Kericho County. The event, framed by the region’s famous tea plantations, promises competitive races and a charitable cause.
Initiated by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, the race aims to raise funds for bursaries and scholarships benefiting bright but needy, orphaned, and vulnerable students in the constituency and at the Starehe Boys’ and Girls’ Centre.
Race Categories and Prizes
- The main event is a 21km half marathon, offering a top prize of KSh 500,000, with rewards extending to the top 10 finishers in both men’s and women’s divisions.
- A 10km race will award KSh 100,000 to the winner, with second and third places earning KSh 75,000 and KSh 50,000 respectively.
- A 5km community fun run will also take place, encouraging wider participation.
Elite Competitors and Special Guests
Confirmed elite runners include Sandra Felis Chebet, Diana Chekemoi, Miriam Chebet, Edwin Bett, Leonard Barsoton, and Kyumbe Munguti. They follow last year’s champions Nicholas Kimeli and Aisha Cheptengeny.
Adding prestige to the event, Kenyan distance legends such as Faith Kipyegon, Eliud Kipchoge, Sheila Chepkurui, Timothy Cheruiyot, Mercy Cherono, and Ferguson Rotich are expected to attend as special guests.
MP Koech highlighted the scenic setting of the race, stating it offers ideal conditions for world-class competition while fostering a movement to support education for vulnerable children.
