Nairobi County Assembly has earmarked Sh20 million in its 2026/27 budget to construct a monument and statue commemorating the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The allocation appears in the 40th Report of the Select Committee on County Finance, Budget and Appropriations, which outlines revenue and expenditure estimates for the upcoming financial year.
Monument Location and Approval
The statue will be situated at the Supreme Court Roundabout along City Hall Way, following an amendment to the original proposal that suggested Uhuru Park as the site.
This initiative stems from a unanimously approved motion by the County Assembly, sponsored by Nairobi West MCA John Rex Omolleh of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), aiming to establish a permanent memorial for Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025 while receiving medical treatment in India.
Honouring a National Icon
During the motion presentation, Omolleh emphasized Raila Odinga's significant contributions to Kenya's democratic progress and socio-economic development.

- He served in various capacities including Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, Prime Minister, and opposition leader.

With the budget approved, the county executive will begin planning and collaborating with national government agencies to implement the project. Once completed, the monument is expected to become a prominent landmark celebrating Raila Odinga’s enduring political legacy.
