Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has sparked debate after sharing images of his cream-walled, red-roofed mansion on Instagram as he announced his 2032 presidential ambitions.
In his post, Salasya indirectly challenged ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna by questioning how a leader earning approximately KSh 3.5 million monthly from multiple political roles could still live in a modest single-storey house in Bungoma.

Salasya highlighted the combined monthly income of a senator, Chief Whip, and ODM Secretary-General, suggesting that failure to build a home despite such earnings raises concerns about financial management and leadership vision. He wrote that such a person seems to lack financial management skills and cannot inspire visionary trust.

Sifuna’s simple Bungoma home has been widely shared on social media, prompting defenders like Nelson Havi to argue that the modest living reflects integrity rather than incompetence, urging Kenyans to appreciate leaders who do not flaunt wealth.
