President William Ruto has announced changes to the leadership of key state agencies, including revoking the appointment of Dr Thuo Mathenge as Chairperson of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO).

The revocation took effect on July 24, 2026, as published in the Kenya Gazette under the relevant legal provisions. The notice did not specify reasons for the decision.

Reappointment at National Irrigation Authority

In the same Gazette notice, the president reappointed Gilbert Maluki as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Board for a three-year term starting July 24, 2026.

Additional Leadership Changes

Alongside these moves, former Bumula MP Moses Wekesa Mwambu Mabonga was appointed as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for a three-year term.

Mabonga expressed gratitude for the appointment and committed to serving with integrity and professionalism, aiming to strengthen the energy and petroleum sectors in support of Kenya's development agenda.
