Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho was officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, following a commanding victory in the recent by-election.
The ceremony, which opened the day’s parliamentary session, saw Ngotho escorted to the Speaker’s podium by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia and Roysambu MP Mwafrika. He took the oath of office, pledging allegiance to the people of Kenya and a commitment to uphold the Constitution.
Oath of Office:
“I, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, having been elected a member of the National Assembly, do swear in the name of the Almighty God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya, that I will obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya, and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a member of Parliament. So help me God,” Ngotho declared.
After signing the official oath register, he formally assumed his role as Ol Kalou’s representative in Parliament, visibly elated at the milestone marking the start of his legislative tenure.
Party Unity and Support
Ahead of the swearing-in, party leaders displayed solidarity by wearing coordinated green attire symbolizing their Democratic Change Party (DCP) affiliation. Male officials donned green blazers with grey trousers, while female leaders wore green blazers paired with skirts or trousers.
The group, which included prominent figures such as Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, posed for photographs outside Parliament before chanting slogans underscoring their opposition stance and party unity.

In a remarkable gesture, Ngotho traveled from Ol Kalou to Nairobi by public matatu, engaging with supporters along the way who congratulated him on his electoral success.
Celebrations and Leadership
The DCP delegation at the event was led by Secretary General-Designate and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who played a key role in the party’s campaign. Other notable attendees included Senators Karungo wa Thang’wa (Kiambu), Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), John Kinyua (Laikipia), and MPs Amos Mwago (Starehe) and Geoffrey Wandeto (Tetu).
DCP has been buoyant following the by-election, where Ngotho secured over 85% of votes. The party’s senators recently attracted national attention by attending Senate sessions in matching green attire to celebrate the victory, drawing playful remarks from Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.
