Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has expressed gratitude to ordinary Kenyans for their financial support of the Linda Mwananchi movement, highlighting how small donations have kept the initiative operational without dependence on wealthy backers.
Speaking during a series of rallies in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, Sifuna revealed that the movement's paybill continues to receive daily contributions, mostly in small amounts like Sh10. He described this as a sign of rising public trust in the citizen-driven campaign.
"They said we don't have money, but the paybill is bringing in money every day. I want to thank you for the many Sh10 contributions you have sent," Sifuna said. "We don't need government money. We will walk with the power of the citizens."
The rallies attracted large crowds across various trading centres as Linda Mwananchi leaders intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election. Sifuna was joined by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and other allied leaders.
Recently, the movement endorsed Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate for 2027, with Governor Natembeya leading mobilisation efforts in Western Kenya.
Focus on Citizen Participation
During the tour, Sifuna urged Kenyans to back the movement’s agenda centred on accountability, good governance, and active public involvement. He emphasized that Linda Mwananchi aims to prove political campaigns can be sustained by ordinary citizens rather than affluent individuals or vested interests.
Governor Natembeya appealed to residents to support the movement, advocating for a new leadership style prioritizing citizens' interests. Senator Khalwale called for unity among Western Kenya leaders to boost the region’s political influence, while MP Babu Owino encouraged youth voter registration ahead of next year’s polls.
Expanding Grassroots Reach
The Trans Nzoia rallies are part of a broader Linda Mwananchi campaign covering multiple regions to broaden its support base. The team plans to continue its Western Kenya tour with a significant rally in Bungoma.
The movement positions itself as an alternative political platform driven by grassroots mobilisation and citizen engagement. Sifuna reiterated that the movement’s success depends on public goodwill rather than financial strength.
"Our strength lies with the people. Every contribution, no matter how small, shows that Kenyans want a different kind of politics, one funded and driven by wananchi themselves," he concluded.
