Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has committed to lowering fuel prices by Ksh10 if elected president, promising to repay Kenyans who have supported his presidential bid with small grassroots donations.
Speaking in Kamukuywa, Bungoma County, on July 26, 2026, Sifuna defended the Linda Mwananchi movement’s reliance on modest contributions from ordinary citizens. He argued that owing many Kenyans is preferable to being indebted to wealthy individuals who might demand government favors.
Fuel Price Reduction Promise
"The Ksh10 that Kenyans are contributing is enough. It is better to owe Kenyans than a few rich people who will demand tenders once we form government," Sifuna said. He pledged that upon assuming office, he would reduce fuel prices by the same amount as a way of giving back to the public.
Championing Democratic Governance
Beyond economic promises, Sifuna emphasized the need for a government rooted in democratic principles and values. He cautioned against measuring leadership success solely by infrastructure projects, noting that authoritarian regimes can also deliver such developments.
"We need a government of principles and respect for democracy," he stated. "Building roads and stadiums alone should not define good governance. The debate must include the values guiding the government." He challenged voters to consider this when making their choice.
Political Support and Commitment
Sifuna expressed gratitude to political allies including Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for backing his campaign. He assured supporters of his steadfastness in the political race ahead of the 2027 General Election.
"If we start this journey, will I turn back and leave you? No. We will go all the way. I will not let you down, and I ask you not to let me down," he affirmed.
